Food Safety Training

Food business operators are legally obliged to comply with the general and specific food hygiene requirements of Regulations (EC) No.852:2004.

The food business operator should ensure that all staff working in food areas has sufficient knowledge to enable them to carry out their activities in a safe and hygienic manner.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued guidelines in relation to Food Safety training.

FSAI Level 1 Training

Basic food safety skills

All food handlers and non - food handlers

Must demonstrate within the first three months of employment

FSAI Level 2 Training

Additional food safety skills

All food handlers and non - food handlers

Must demonstrate within three to twelve months of employment

Behan Safety Systems are licensed by the E.H.A.I to deliver the Primary Food Safety Training Course

(Based on FSAI Level 2 Guidelines)

E.H.A.I Primary Food Safety Training Course

(Formally the Environmental Health Officers Association)

This course is designed for individuals that are involved in food handling,preparation,storage and food service.  

On completion of the course, successful participants are awarded a certificate from the Environmental Health Officers' Association.

  • Introduction to Food Safety
  • Microbiological Hazards
  • Food Contamination
  • HACCP From Food Delivery to Storage
  • HACCP From Food Preparation to Cooking and Service
  • Food Premises and Equipment
  • Pest Control
  • Cleaning and Disinfection
  • Food Safety Law and Enforcement

1 Hour written examination


Course Duration: 1 Day (Min 8 Hours class time plus exam)


Entry Requirements: No previous experience required


Maximum number of participants: 15


This course is classroom based and can be delivered in house for your convenience.

Level 1

Food Safety Training Course

This course is an introduction to Food Safety. It is suitable for candidates with no previous experience or who require a refresher course.

The course meets the requirements of the guidelines set out by the Food Safety Authority Ireland Level 1

  • Temperature Control
  • Food Safety Hazards
  • Cleaning
  • Pest Control
  • Hand Washing
  • HACCP- Introduction

On completion of the course, successful participants are awarded a certificate of attendance from Behan Safety Systems.

Level 2

Food Safety Training Course

The course meets the requirements of the guidelines set out by the Food Safety Authority Ireland. Each candidate will receive additional skills and knowledge in food safety.
