It is suitable for people working in care facilities, hospitals, nursing homes that carry out manual handling and patient handling tasks throughout the day.

This course is classroom based and it combines both theory and practical learning.

  • Practice - Safe standing of a person from a bed side
  • Practice - Assisted walking with a person
  • Practice - Seating a person in a wheelchair
  • Practice - Rolling a person on their side
  • Practice - Moving a person up a bed
  • Practice - How to assist a fallen individual
  • Practice - How to use an electric hoist

Upon successful completion of this course participants will gain the skills and knowledge

necessary to:

  • Recognise a load which is too heavy or awkward
  • Explain their legal rights and responsibilities
  • Understand the limitations of the spine and muscular system
  • Conduct a patient handling risk assessment
  • Lift and handle patients safely
  • Understand correct lifting techniques

Course Duration: 6 Hours

Entry Requirements: No previous experience required

Maximum number of participants: 12

Successful candidates will receive a certificate in Patient Moving and Manual Handling from

Behan Safety Systems.
